Build: first unRAID server

This post will just explain how I got here, and what my hardware specifications are.

A bit of background history.
I’ve had an i7-3770K since December 2012, so it’s quite an old CPU, but considered it’s age, it’s doing quite well.
Anyway, it started showing it’s age around a year ago. Since I was regularly streaming, it would sacrifice some fps for it to stream.
I had to squeeze a bit more performance out of it, so I had it delidded (toms Hardware has it explained here) and OC’d to 4.5 GHz, which helped it last for the last couple of months before I had money for the new PC.

So when I was able to buy a new one, for the price of 1.500 DKK (1,500 DKK for american curency punctuation), my i7-3370K became my server.

My hardware specifications:
CPU: Intel i7-3770K @ 4.5 GHz
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212X
Motherboard: MSI Z77A-GD65
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2 x 8 GB 1600 MHz CL9
Video Card: MSI GEForce GT 710*
PSU: XFX Core Edition 850 W 80+ Bronze
Case: Antec Twelve Hundred (original version)

The reason for the GT 710, is that I got it for free when buying my new PC, and it’s able to do 1 Plex transcode, so it makes life easier for my CPU, which is fine.

Storage:
Seagate Barracuda 4 TB
Seagate Barracuda 1 TB
Western Digital Blue 1 TB*

The reason for the swap of brand, is that I got the WD cheap from a friend, and I was running low on storage (I am again).

So my server is nothing massive or anything, but it gets the job done for now.
I have ideas for what I can use it for down the line, but for now, it’s going to keep being my old hardware.
